The Garden

The garden. During the great Easter festivities, make a tree or grapevines or a garden out of dough. And on the tree hang apples, pears, or birds, or grapes, or whatever you like, various things, made out of dough enriched with egg; and they should be filled with a stuffing described above, and color them different colors, like yellow, green, white and black. For the honor of said tree, put in the middle of it a pastry, or rather a cage full of birds; and in such a tree you may put all the fruits you find, according to the different seasons. When it is brought into the court, make underneath the tree (or grapevines, or garden) a tall wood fire, and put scented branches in it; and set it up with pomp.
